Scouting in Bath is growing!

2 May 2014

pgl13_original Scouting is now officially the largest co-educational community-based youth charity in the UK; there are now 550,457 people involved in the Scout adventure.

According to this year’s census, which is carried out annually to identify trends and development areas in the Movement, UK Scout membership has grown by 100,000 in 10 years, increasing from 450,455 in 2004 to 550,457 in 2014. This year’s census also reveals that the number of adult volunteers involved has grown, along with the number of females now in scouting.

“Bath Scouts reflected this national trend with an increase of 8.83% on last years census figures”

Wayne Bulpitt, UK Chief Commissioner, is in no doubt where the success for the growth of the Movement lies. He says: ‘Scouting offers young people and adults alike a chance of real adventure. Scouting changes young people’s lives and the communities in which they live for the better.’

Cpgl_131hief Scout Bear Grylls said being a Scout ’empowers’ people, and he said he is “excited” to see membership increasing.
‘I am super-proud to see so many young people and adults learning new life skills, achieving personal rewards through Scouting in the UK.
‘I am excited to see Scout numbers continue to rise across the UK and the big reasons for this are that more and more young people are realising that Scouting can give them so much – whether it’s the opportunity to be involved with some incredible adventures, learn practical life, outdoor and teamwork skills, or helping to improve their local communities.
‘People don’t want to miss out and Scouting brings them all together, empowers them and allows them to make a positive impact,’ he said.

More information about this growth can be found on the Scout Association’s website and in this Daily Mail article.
