Scouts Revel in Rowing Regatta

16 June 2014

An early start was in order this Saturday for Scouts from 66th Bath as they joined over 100 other Scouts on the edge of Bristol Docks. In store was a busy day of activities at the Avon Scouts Water Regatta including Canoeing, Sailing, Rowing and Dragon Boating.

Throughout the day the Scouts reveled in the opportunity to try the new activities on offer and benefit from the expertise of their instructors. Highlights included Canoeing past the entrance to the Great Western Dock, which houses the SS Great Britain, and learning they could dip their heads in the water whilst balancing a sailing boat.

After a chance to cool off out of the sun for some lunch, chatting about the morning’s exploits and a top up of sun cream, it was back on the water for an action-packed afternoon. The boats were soon rowed out of sight along the harbourside and all the way up into the city centre. To round the day off came Dragon Boating, a chance to bang the drum and try and keep in time with the rest of the crew. Tired arms took their toll but all the Scouts tried their best and had a lot of fun racing along the river.

After a day in the sunshine trying their hand at a range of water activities, Scouts left the harbourside with the badges they’d earned and a host of new experiences, tired, but looking forward to the prospect of the event happening again in the future.
