Self Sufficient Scout Earns Small Holders Badge

27 October 2014
A Scout from the 28th Troop has just completed his Small Holders Badge, only the second time time the badge has been awarded in the Troop.  Robin achieved this by being regular volunteer at Dry Arch community co-op for 3 years which looks after 6 acres of land on the edge of Bathampton. Robin said ‘Over the years I have learned about crop rotation, prepared beds for planting, sown seeds, weeded and harvested vegetables such as beans, squashes, tomatoes and potatoes.’
Robin also learned to look after pigs and turkeys. He said ‘The pigs have their own pellets as well as all the left over vegetables at Dry Arch and are reared for their meat’.The Small Holders Badge is just one of many badges that can be gained outside of a regular Scout meeting.
