Putting the ‘out’ into Scout

4 December 2014

Bathampton Scouts, all aged from 10 to 14, are celebrating another action packed and exciting year.

The girls and boys have tried many fun, challenging and unique activities at during 2014. One challenge was in March it was the annual Dragnet Camp, where the Patrols were chased across an 18 mile route by a hunter team and had to work together to avoid being captured.

Over the May bank holiday they camped in Dorset near Corfe Castle and enjoyed archery, a trip to Brownsea Island, a low ropes course and a day hike. In July as part of their Survival Badge, the Scouts spent four evenings at Claverton learning bushcraft skills including, fire lighting, finding water and building shelters.

The highlight of the year was summer camp in Sway. The Scouts were able to put into practice all the skills they learnt on a week night. The ten day camp was spent under canvas, with the Scouts cooking all their own food, completing their survival badge and enjoying trips to a sea pool, a fair and the Isle of Wight.

Many of the Scouts passed their Expedition, Camp Cook and Adventure Challenge badges.

October saw the Scouts attempt the Bath Sky Line hike with many completing 3 circuits of the course. The Scouts completed the year by enjoying their annual chip shop hike around Bath, reviewing the chips on offer and ending with a DVD night and sleepover.

Between the camps the Scouts took part in wide games, blind folding cake decorating, making mallets, designing recruitment videos and passing numerous badges including music, sports and computer badges.
