Bath Scouts take to the water to hone their paddling skills

For some this was their first kayaking session and after learning to paddle forwards, were thrown in at the deep end when they were taught the more advanced skill of paddling backwards. Many of the Scouts then bravely accepted the doughnut challenge in which they had to climb out of their boat and walk in a circle across the noses of everybody else’s boats, before getting back into their own. This is harder than it sounds and although some made it around unscathed (claiming applause from a river bank audience) others apparently decided they’d rather take a swim in the Avon!
After a short paddle back down the river, the Scouts split into teams and enjoyed a game of water polo under Cleveland bridge, before packing their boats away and enjoying a warm shower and hot chocolate. Great fun was had by all – many thanks to the Bath Canoe Club for running the session. To find out more about some of activities Scouting has to offer in Bath, get in touch here!
