Bathampton Scouts enjoy weekend of Adventure at PGL

20 February 2016

Scouts from the 28th Bath (Bathampton) Scout Troop, spent a weekend trying new adventurous activities at PGL in Liddington

20160213_110655Last weekend Scouts from the 28th Bathampton troop, took the opportunity to experience a wide range of new activities at PGL in Liddington near Swindon.

The Scouts, all aged between 10 and 14, spent two nights away at the centre where they were able to try Abseiling, Areoball and a tunnel trail, to name just a few of the activities on offer.

The zip-wire was also a firm favourite with the Scouts. Lucy aged 11 said “we all enjoyed the zip-wire because it was the activity we got the most goes on, and after the first time it stopped being scary and was just really fast and fun!”

As well as overcoming fears, many of the activities also promoted team work, especially the 40ft ‘Jacob’s ladder’ in which teams of three had to help each other reach the top, climbing massive wooden rungs, each approximately 5ft apart.

Ashley, an leader with the group, said “It was great to see the Scout putting the team skills we develop with them into practice on a challenging activity like this. You could really see a difference in the Scouts that have been with us for a while and have had the opportunity to develop those skills”.

Other activities the Scouts took part in included the Crate Stacking Challenge, Archery and Trapeze.

The camp also provided a memorable backdrop for 5 Scouts who were formally enrolled into the Troop. One of the Scouts who was invested, Will, said ‘my brother joined Scouts a few years before me and when I saw what a great time he was having on camp, I wanted to join too and I am loving everyone minute!”
