Bath Leaders visit Roihu Jamboree in Finland
Two Leaders from the 28th Bathampton Scouts have just returned from an International Guide and Scout Jamboree.
Simon and Ethan joined 17,000 young people including 3000 from all over the world, at a pop up tent village in Evo near Hameenlinna, in Southern Finland. After an evening in Helsinki looking around the Cathedral and harbour the two Scouts joined other international participants for the two hour trip to the campsite.
This was one of the many activities the Scouts could do at the week long event including mastering Chinese calligraphy, climbing boulders, crafts, exploring nature, learning to drive, flying model aircraft, studying archaeology and moonlight paddling. Simon and Ethan also spent time walking in the forests and around the lake visiting the Forrest School in the village of Evo.
After the camp the Leaders spent time in Tallin, the capital of Estonia for more walking and site seeing. Simon and Ethan immersed themselves in local culture by visiting the walled old city, visits to the Maritime Museum, site of the 1980 Olympics, the Resistance Museum, the KGB Museum and climbing St Olavs Church to admire the views across the city. Other highlights included a train trip to Kella to visit the County Museum, walk around a rustic market and listening to live music.
