Weston Cubs Help Hungry Families this Winter

1 January 2017

November and December are cold, dark months. When you’re struggling to put food on the table, or haven’t even got a home, then winter is even tougher.

This is an issue that the Cubs from 66th Bath (Weston Village) have been tackling recently. Tying in with the Cubs 100 centenary celebration, they held a ‘Bring in a tin night’, with the aim of collecting 100 items of non-perishable food. Across the two packs at the group, they beat this target and the food has now been donated to the local food bank.

Cubs then spent the evening looking at how much money people have to spend on food across the world.

This wasn’t it, however. A number of Cubs and Scouts gave up their Saturday to take part in a traditional scouting fundraiser, bag packing, which was kindly hosted by Sainsburys Green Park in Bath.

Cub Leader Charlotte Brewer said “The cubs were absolutely amazing, standing at the tills, offering help and packing plenty of bags. It was a pretty tiring day but everyone left smiling”

The leaders then had a late night counting all the donations, but it was worth it as we found that we raised £582.78 to be split between the group and the local food bank

A big thank you to the Cubs and Scouts for their hard work, and a big thanks to the generous customers of Sainsburys in Bath!
