Scouts and BUGS take on the Outdoors Challenge Badge

1 March 2019

69th (Lower Weston) Bath Scouts were delighted to welcome guest Leaders from the Bath University Guides and Scouts (BUGS) this month. They learned about respecting people and nature whilst having fun with the countryside code, which saw some rather amusing role plays of escaping cattle and runaway dogs. Keeping clean and safe on camp was the next activity, thinking about hygiene and food storage. Finally, Scouts were challenged to decide which items to take, and which to leave behind on an overnight expedition. Safe to say it was agreed that slippers were not essential items, but some items did prompt a bit more debate. Scouts then practised packing a hiking rucksack, picking up lots of tips on keeping kit dry, and keeping your compass accessible.

BUGS are returning later in the term to help with more of the Outdoor Challenge badge, as the Scouts work towards their spring camp at Chelwood in March. Thank you to them all for supporting our young people with such enthusiasm! The Scouts in Weston, and across Bath, are looking for more leaders to help young people learn new outdoor skills – to find out how you could be a part of our next adventure, get in touch today!
