Southdown Safari Scouts

23 October 2019

In August, Cubs and Scouts travelled to Rhydd Covert Campsite, next to West Midlands Safari park, for their annual summer camp. Throughout the camp, both Cubs and Scouts worked in teams to complete challenges and develop a range of life skills.

The Cubs learnt some camp craft skills and tried many activities for the first time. They also cooked on fires in different ways to earn their backwoods cooking badge. The Scouts became more independent, taking it in turns to be the group leader each day. Each group prepared their meals, mostly cooked using fires, honing their Scouting skills. They also slept out in shelters and earned their Outdoor Challenge badge.

Everyone took part in many onsite adventurous activities including archery, shooting, climbing, tunneling, mountain biking, grass sledging, orienteering and an assault course. They hiked using their navigation skills, took part in many campfires with songs and had a talent show.

Finally, everyone enjoyed a trip to the Safari park, visiting the animals they had heard all week and having fun on the rides.
