Last month marked the 50th year of the Costwold Marathon, an overnight winter hike over a variety of terrain, which tests teams’ fitness, resilience and orienteering skills. Routes vary in length from 10 to 30 miles.

The first Cotswold Marathon in 1973 was attended by 66 Venture Scouts. This year, over 500 people participated including Explorers from Blaze and Young Leaders Unit, and the Bath Scout Network. Bath Scouts leaders helped with minibus transport and ran one of the many checkpoints. They finished at 6am! “It was a very cold night,” said Group Leader Simon, “but they all did incredibly well.”

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
