Fairytale Scouts!

Date: 23rd May 2022 Author: Amy Howard

On the May Bank Holiday weekend all three sections from 31st Bath – St Barnabas attended group themed camp: Once Upon a Fairytale at Cleeve Hill Campsite.

The premise was that fairytale characters had come through a portal and five teams of Scouts, Cubs and Beavers had been called upon to investigate these strange goings on by immersing themselves into this world and completing a series of challenges.

Challenges included rescuing the caged princess from the water-shooting dragon and escaping his lair, baking cookies that were ‘just right’ in the Three Bears Cottage, building three houses for the Three Little Pigs out of cardboard, sticks and bricks and testing their toughness. They also whittled and decorated wands in the Fairy Godmothers workshop, stopped the Billy Goats Gruff from invading the Troll’s bridge and returned the Golden Goose’s eggs back to the nest via an assault course.

On the final day the teams’ points were converted to time advantages and all the teams raced to complete the final quest – to find ingredients, mix them into a potion and cast a magical spell to send the fairytale creatures back through the portal. All teams successfully completed the mission and were rewarded with a celebration activity – a giant inflatable obstacle course.

Congratulations to the fastest team – The Wild Sorcerers who were the winners with the Spellbound Orcs coming runners up.
