When Disaster Strikes!

Date: 29th Oct 2022 Author: Amy Howard

Would you know how to cope if disaster struck?! If mains water, electricity and gas were shut off? If the shops were closed and you were separated from your friends, family and everything familiar to you?

If your Scout attended this month’s BE PREPARED at our Cleve Hill Campsite, the chances are they will know exactly what to do – in fact, in a REAL emergency, they could be the ones helping you!

BE PREPARED is an annual weekend event which uses disaster planning as a way to facilitate team building, teach leadership and decision-making skills, and develop resilience, all in the process of working out what to do if the worst happens. The event is open to Scouts and Guides from across the UK and this year included 28th, 51st and 69th troops from Bath District.

This year, it was all about what to do in the aftermath of an earthquake. The Scouts learned 1st Aid, how to rescue casualties, safely extinguish fires and build a water pipeline and much more.

And of course, they also had fun!
