Scouts Conquer Overnight Hike Across Bath

Date: 6th Apr 2026 Author: Amy Howard
Scouts and Explorers from across Bath, Wiltshire and Bristol demonstrated exceptional resilience, teamwork and determination as they took on this year’s “TrekQuinox” Challenge — an overnight endurance challenge held on the weekend closest to the Spring Equinox.
Organised by Bath District Scouts in partnership with Storm Young Leaders, the annual event challenged participants to navigate a demanding 21-mile route between sunset and sunrise, travelling from Bath to Marshfield and back. The hike tested not only physical endurance but also vital navigation and map-reading skills.
This year, more than 200 walkers took part, supported by 50 dedicated leaders, parents and volunteers. Teams were assisted throughout the night by checkpoint staff and a central Control Team, ensuring the event ran safely and smoothly.
Reflecting on the experience, Matt, a leader from Cotswold Edge Scouts and a member of a checkpoint team, said: “It was a really good event and super well organised. I will happily help again.”
Storm claimed the Explorer Trophy with an exceptional time of 6 hours and 35 minutes. In the Scout category, 21st Larkhall Scouts took top honours, completing the route in an impressive 8 hours and 44 minutes.
The organisers extend their sincere thanks to Marshfield Cricket Club for the use of their Pavilion as a checkpoint, and to Weston Methodist Chapel for hosting the event’s Control Centre.
TrekQuinox continues to be a highlight of the local Scouting calendar, offering young people the opportunity to challenge themselves, build confidence and develop lifelong skills through adventure and teamwork.
