Young Leaders (14-18)

The Young Leaders’ Scheme is just one of the exciting programme elements in the Explorer Scout section.

Young leaders are between the ages 14 and 18 who have chosen to help a younger section in scouting. They help the young members take part in the activities. They can also run games, lead activities and could help plan the programme of their section.

The Young Leaders Scheme helps these Explorer Scouts grow as individuals. It gives them a range of skills and develops their confidence. Being a young leader completes the service element of the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme and other similar awards.

All young leaders must register with a Young Leader Unit. Our unit, Storm, provides a monthly programme of training and activities. They’ll also join our Explorer Unit, Blaze Explorers, for camps and other adventurous activities.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
