An action-packed Easter camp!

28th Bathampton Scouts had an action-packed camp over the Easter holidays, spending three nights at St Michael’s Church in Teignmouth, Devon where they slept inside the impressive historic building.

Using the church as their base, accompanied by the sound of waves crashing just across the road, the Scouts enjoyed a wide range of activities over four days. Highlights included a challenging 14-mile hike along the South West Coast Path from Teignmouth to Torquay, navigating steep climbs and descents along the rugged coastline, and geocaching (a real-world treasure hunt, requiring excellent orienteering skills!)

A special moment during the camp saw five new Scouts invested aboard the Golden Hind, a replica of Sir Francis Drake’s famous ship. This was followed by a visit to the Brixham Battery Museum, where the guides explained the area’s significant role during World War II and the D-Day landings.

Evenings were spent cooking their own meals, with a standout moment being a three-course cooking competition. The two Patrols impressed with dishes including homemade pasta and ragu.

The camp concluded with a visit to Paignton Zoo, where the Scouts learned about conservation efforts to protect endangered species.

Ben one of the Leader Team said: “This camp was a fantastic opportunity for the Scouts to challenge themselves, learn new skills and build confidence. The Scouts showed great teamwork and resilience throughout.”

One of the Scouts added: “Sleeping in the church was amazing, and the hike was rewarding and really fun. Cooking our own meals and visiting the zoo were definitely highlights for me.”

This Easter camp is just one example of the many adventures enjoyed by Scouts from across the Bath District.
