Scouts ‘endure’ another great hike!

Date: 29th Apr 2024 Author: Amy Howard

15th Freshford and 28th Bathampton Scouts embarked on their third Annual Joint Endurance hike earlier this Spring. The combined Troops faced a challenging hike through muddy woods and flooded fields, and along occasional roads.

The course is a loop set between Iford and Freshford, the aim being to complete the most loops in the time allowed. Checkpoint volunteers included Leaders and parents from both Groups – many of whom brought home made cakes to help the Scouts along.

Bath Youth Commissioner Dan commented: “The Scouts enjoyed the damp conditions and later the rain, with four Patrols all completing at least 6 or 7 laps over the seven hours”. The Scouts utilised skills learnt at their weekly meetings including navigation, radio use and leaderships skills’.

Grateful thanks as always to Alex and Marriane for allowing us use of the Iford Manor carpark again and to all the volunteers and supporters on the day.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
