Thank you Ethan!

Some Scouts make a real impact on their groups and their patrols. None more so than Ethan W who gave a wonderful leaving speech to the 28th Bathampton group, reflecting on his time in Scouts. If you’ve even wondered about the value of Scouts and Scouting, just see what it’s meant to Ethan. And if you know a young person who would like to join, see the Join page on this website:

“It has been a true honour for me to be part of the Bathampton Scouts for the past few years.

Over my time here, I’ve had some horizon-broadening and unforgettable experiences, such as sledging for the first and only time, standing within 50cm of a fire to overcome my fear of them and blind coast steering.

There is some truth to be found when Simon says that he’s failed to “get rid” of me; I’ve simply loved the time I’ve spent here. Turning up most Friday evenings at 7:30 pm, for as long I have lived in the UK, this has become a vital part of my life.

Reflecting on all of this, I really think that the Bathampton scouts’ website is very right when it says that “Bathampton Scouts have been providing Skills For Life to young people…”, although it could certainly do with some updating!

I certainly have gained a lot of skills that has already helped my in my life, and I have no doubt that in the future, there will be many times when I will be grateful for the time I have spent here.

This amazing environment has allowed me to flourish, and I have been helped by all of you every step of the way. I look back with pride at everything we’ve achieved, and I am sure that there is a bright future at Bathampton Scouts.

To finish off, I have some final comments:

To all my fellow Scouts and hopefully friends, thank you for putting up with my carelessness and providing an excellent opportunity for me to thrive in.

To all the Leaders and Young Leaders, both present and not, but especially Simon, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the sacrifices that you make to provide us with this amazing educational experience and invaluable guidance.

To the next generation of Bathampton Scouts, good luck, be prepared, and relish the opportunity that you are extremely lucky to be granted.

And finally, to Simon again, who has not very subtly hinted…., consider me resigned as a Patrol Leader
